Collections of an Absent Mind

By Colm O’Reilly Fitzgerald

Inaugural ChapLip Library Series publishing competition winner, Colm O’Reilly Fitzgerald’s book of poetry. Colm Fitzgerald was born and raised in Stockton, California. Fitzgerald attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, earning a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Legal Studies. He focused his studies on constitutional law and philosophy and plans to attend law school. The son of a lifelong journalist, Fitzgerald’s love of reading and writing is part and parcel of his heritage. Fitzgerald began writing poetry at age sixteen when his favorite English teacher took a new job and left behind a permanent substitute. In an effort to pass the time, he began writing free verse, stream-of-consciousness journal entries. To Fitzgerald, poetry has always been less about art and more about escaping. Fitzgerald draws inspiration from a diverse array of artists such as Shel Silverstein, Jermaine Cole, Robert Frost, Kendrick Lamar, Edgar Allen Poe and Percy Bysshe Shelley.
